I am back. World Three is back. Now with a fresh coat of new! This is the truest of true restructurings we’ve ever done, ever. Things are broken, things need fixing, but all of us are here to stick it out to the bitter end. We just want to release manga, man.

The original reader [slide.world-three.org] will be dead until we finalize an alternative. Foolslide was all right, but caused many problems in the back end. Our resident devs decided they’ll take a crack at a reader themselves, and that’s what we’re testing right now. PHP is really lame, just so you know.

Lost all my actions in a freak install accident, so that means I have to relearn how to clean the way I used to clean things. That will be fun. Also PW:DD was pretty good. You should play it if you’re a fan of the series. Juniper is the best.

  1. When I press an arrow key to scroll up or down it seems to scroll a preset amount as opposed to the old reader which just smoothly scrolled however much I wanted. I vastly prefer the behavior of the old reader in this respect. But this seems to cycle between pages even quicker than the previous one did, so that’s an improvement.

  2. The reader seems alright to me. I appreciate the chapters and am gonna keep reading it either way. But I would like it if the scroll was just left naturally instead of panning down to the portion i haven’t read yet. It’s nothing horrific just a standard among the other readers people seem to use. Overall doesn’t make that much of a difference, just giving the requested feedback.

  3. The new reader looks good, but I’m not keen on the smooth animated scrolling effect, or smooth scrolling, or whatever I should call it. I’d rather just have it scroll instantly.

    • Personally, I would argue for it (the smooth scrolling). It’s a little strange, yes, but it’s much more of a ‘natural’ movement down the page, without the coarseness of the usual scroll.

The ultimate, I suppose, would be a little cookie-enabled checkbox off in a corner of the page for smooth scroll that you could check or uncheck.
