I’ve tried to advertise a different series with every episode, but I ran out of ideas here. And thus, we’re back to this little gem. I guess I can semi-promote it here. If anyone’s interested in translating it or the likes, please let me know. I already have scans, and I call dibs on editing the script and lettering it.

Anyway, 5.1 is also the first part where I started experimenting with a new, more advanced lettering style. CloudSplitter BB has autolig support built in (I only use OpenType fonts), but it also has different variations of each letter tied to the upper- and lowercase characters. Keeping that in mind, I swapped between versions when two of the same letter were near each other. I also found that this sometimes resulted in different character widths, so I utilized that to tweak the final line width and make it fit the balloon shape more naturally. Well, in addition to manually stretching/condensing the character width for the entire line, that is. Way too much effort? Probably. Worth it? I think so. Feedback is always welcome. Any comments on my lettering style are appreciated, so long as they’re constructive.

Today we mark the end of another great volume, but also the beginning of another (potentially). Memoria 12 has been done since before April, but I missed the release day for it, and 13 wasn’t even done, so I skipped the next week, and now it’s here today.

Since Cosmos has been sealed away for a while, I focused all my remaining energy into working on Memoria. I still have no idea what it is about Lagrange that I like so much, but I really like it a whole damn lot. I look forward to seeing what the next volume has in store… as soon as I get around to buying it…

But also, I decided to up and release this first chapter of Houkago Play R that I did as a test run to figure out fonts and placement. As the last page of the release implies, it’s a recruitment ploy…! So we are looking for people to work specifically on this, but can bring whatever else they want, or work on things we have already.

If we get no one it’ll default back to me, and well, I work on a whole lot of other things here, on top of struggling with a MMO addiction. Thus if it did default back to me, it’d most likely get put on the backlog until I get around to it. Which may take seemingly forever as you may know. That is why I’m begging recruiting!

–Batch for Memoria will probably be out next week. Because there’s some errors I want to fix. As well as realizing “Guerrilla” has been misspelled this whole time. I’m a terrible person.

So this was actually done a while ago, but I was just too lazy to release it. Expect more timely releases in the future. Hopefully. I’m not terribly good at conveying accents, but if enough people want me to, I can start trying from this chapter onwards(If I do, I’ll go back and try and match the previous chapters to the accent as well). Also, Houkago Play R is being TL’d(first two chapters are done), and the walls of text are already making me want to kill myself, but it’ll only see the light of day if people go on our newly created IRC channel to bug Meiru to letter it. Either that or apply to letter it yourself.

Motivation? What the hell is that?

Ohhhhh, Madoka. You’re so diabolical.

Good gravy, it’s way too easy for any motivation I have to just vanish. At least I was able to scrounge up enough of it to rebuild my computer. Over the past month, I bought a new motherboard, CPU, power supply, and dual GPUs. You can see the details on my overclock.net profile if you’re interested. I’m going to work on overclocking the GPUs for now. I’ll get back to trying to obtain the magical 5.0GHz clock on the CPU once the new thermal paste I ordered gets here.

Ching Chong IntensifiesEffective immediately, we’re dropping Magical Angel Cosmos. Why are we dropping Cosmos, our original headlining series? Because someone else picked it up (find it on Batoto). Cosmos is both some of the most fun I’ve had working on manga, but also some of the most pain. Truth be told, waiting for someone else to pick it up for the past year is part of the reason why we were so slow to do it.

So what do we do from here? Provided I can stop playing Tera for all of a few hours to scan it, it’ll be full steam ahead with Houkago Play R. If not, well, let’s just hope I can stop.

Sorry all those that have spent over a year of their life waiting. I’m a shameful display to my family as it is.

Edit: For the record, before anyone accuses me, I was almost done with the volume anyway. Sans redraws.
