All Right

Ching Chong IntensifiesEffective immediately, we’re dropping Magical Angel Cosmos. Why are we dropping Cosmos, our original headlining series? Because someone else picked it up (find it on Batoto). Cosmos is both some of the most fun I’ve had working on manga, but also some of the most pain. Truth be told, waiting for someone else to pick it up for the past year is part of the reason why we were so slow to do it.

So what do we do from here? Provided I can stop playing Tera for all of a few hours to scan it, it’ll be full steam ahead with Houkago Play R. If not, well, let’s just hope I can stop.

Sorry all those that have spent over a year of their life waiting. I’m a shameful display to my family as it is.

Edit: For the record, before anyone accuses me, I was almost done with the volume anyway. Sans redraws.
Re:Edit: This if the first page scanned of HP:R, for scan testing purposes. Think of it what you will. [Here]

Akatsuki no Memoria Ch.07 + The Good/The Bad/The Ugly

ohoDDL: [Mediafire] | Online: [Reader]

This was supposed to come out yesterday, but I pushed it today. It’s also mostly an announcement post.

The Good
1. Memoria is 5/6th complete! A chapter will come out every Friday until I run out of chapters.
2. After much nagging from Scorpian, I spent way too much time trying to revamp the silly staff page.
3. There’s a lot of stuff in the scheming/woodwork stages right now. Hopefully they’ll happen.
4. Spring Break for all old kids is coming soon. Time for them to get no work done.

The Bad
1. We are in need of staff! Currently looking for one or two Typesetters and a Editor. (Please respond)
1a. This is related to #3 above. We might be able to do some afterschool plays if we can muster it.
2. I started playing Tera again. Productivity has gone down 50%. My Gold count has gone up 5000%.
3. Cosmos will be slightly delayed further due our redrawing aid disappearing, apparently.
3a. Will continue on working once Memoria is done. Will have to white-bar all two-page spreads though. Sorry!

The Ugly
So uh… Where to begin here… In relation to being understaffed/have little free time, Sorairo Square wasn’t getting worked on. Thus we have been lapped and someone else has picked it up now. Chances are if you do read it, you probably already know. So yeah, publicly I have to say we now have officially dropped it. Because Ningen is bitter, you’ll have to find out by who on Mangaupdates. I’d say sorry, but I warned him!!

Uhh, no Watamote this week

Was waiting around for Watamote to come out, but it turns out it got delayed a week to the 28th. O-Oh…
As a placeholder, this was our initial reaction to the PS4 blunder announcement today.

<%Sector89>: We have to play eroges together. It’ll be awesome
<Ningen>: It would indeed
<SirusRiddler>: my remote play is never that smooth…
<K>: On the fly translations
<Ningen>: We all need to meet up somewhere
<Ningen>: Group vacation to new york or something
<%Sector89>: Can we please play an eroge together. For real.
<Ningen>: Bring laptops

We’re working hard though, I swear. Really. Please believe me.

Watamote! Ch.32.5 – We’re Already Dead Edition

It's a container of a mysterious white liquidDDL: [Mediafire] | Online: [Reader]

Against all odds, and despite my joke 15 chapters ago, Watamote now has a greenlit anime! It is definitely something I never imagined happening when I accidentally stumbled into the /a/ thread over a year ago at this point. I am damn well proud of everyone that is a fan of this manga, even those that created a stain on its ‘history’. Better rev up those bank accounts so you can buy the Blu-Rays.

The title “It’s Not My Fault That I’m Not Popular!” has also been incorrect since the Anon translated it that way for Ch. 2. Yes, I’ve known this since then, but have kept it that way mostly for reader recognition purposes, and partly for nostalgia. (Current post title is this way because it was too long.)

Also this will be the last chapter tagged with ‘Loser Girl’. Been planning on changing it to Watamote for months, so now it finally has happened. Change your RSS feed accordingly.

Happy holidays!

Third Time’s the Charm

Volume 3 Pre-orders Are Go!

Probably rather late in posting about this, but I’ve been away for a week so that can’t be helped. I actually remember what I felt when working on every panel featured on the cover this time around, it’s pretty weird. I’m not redrawing bottom center again though, nope nope nope. | Honto | YesAsia | CDJapan
[¥500 = $6.08 USD = €4.70]

One again I recommend Honto or CDJapan with SAL shipping (2-4 weeks), or EMS (1-2 weeks) if you can afford it. The latter over the former if you can’t into runes. YesAsia can screw you over with shipment times. AmazonJP should be avoided unless you like paying 3x the price of the book for shipping itself.

Remember to support manga/authors you like!

My Computer Blew Up

My computer decided to die on me, and with it, all my hard drives and such. Some stuff next week will (maybe) be delayed if I cannot repair my computer by then, but that is primarily things I work on. All our wonderful staff is still continuing to work on their projects though, even as I type, so at least there we be releases. I’m currently on a computer so old that it hits 80°C on idle at times, and just minimizing and maximizing a window has a huge delay. I don’t even.

If you know some stuff about the master race please read my story and comment if you can. ;_;

A Year of Scanlation

Well, we technically have two “anniversaries”. The day we founded this group, and the day we released our first chapter. While we essentially skipped the first, today is what we consider the real anniversary. Hooray!

A year ago today, we released our first release, a chapter of Hen-Zemi. Thus triggering the downwards spiral that then brings us to where we are today. A little wiser, a little better, a little faster, and a little larger. But still just as lazy, if not even lazier.

Because this is an rather important post, one I’ve actually written, rewritten, trashed, and wrote again, I’ll kind of merge our initial “founding” story, and the oh-so-fun numbers portion into one post. Just click whichever you want to read. The last one being the most interesting.

The story itself is actually pretty boring. One day I was on /a/ and found a thread by J who was dumping their latest Ika Musume chapter. Looking at it I realized that the number was abnormally high, and that it didn’t correlate to what it said on Mangaupdates at all. So I dug and eventually found raws and saw that they were in fact not translated at all anywhere. Suddenly I hatched the idea that I could translate these, except I don’t like translating things, at all, so I needed a translator! And that is where the real start began.

Having read scanlations before, and with a rather above average understanding of Photoshop, I tooled away at the first few pages of Ika Musume Chapter 48 and spun a tale of them looking for a translator. These are the first pages I ever “scanlated”. [Page 1] – [Page 2] – [Page 3]

The “Personthingy” in question is now known as にんげん to the internet. He found my edits to be comical at best, but was more moved by the chance to actually make use of his Japanese studies. With that we did in fact scanlate that chapter. But it was lacking…. Badly….

At that time I found out Simple Scans actually was looking for some staff. I ended up taking their QC test, にんげん took the TL test. Long story short, because it was the QC test, I had to learn how to actually scanlate properly in… about 24 hours. And it was hard. Very. Hard. But we both managed to get in, in the end.

Once we were in, the rather renown abcd9146 was to be our adviser through this whole ordeal. I told him that we wanted to work on Ika Musume and would just release it under SS, he agreed. Then I showed him our original cleaned, ‘finished’ chapter, and he laughed. It was shit. 2/10 was the best he could do.

My rudimentary 24 hour skills were more than enough to get in, but not anywhere close to their level of quality to release. にんげん and I took in his words of advice and went back to the drawing board and emerged with this glorious masterpiece of a chapter. Proper redraws and all. [YOU CAN DL IT MAN]

Then we basically quit. And never released that chapter (until now). J picked it up, and we disappeared.

Eventually we reemerged onto the scanlation scene again doing doujins at Kibitou4Life, now Life4Kaoru.
But that is an entirely separate arc, for another time. You could compare it to the Namek arc or something.

Having been itching to get back into manga scanlation though, we wanted to start fresh. But I didn’t want to use our original name, which was “HNNNNNNNNGH Scans”. This is actually how we came up with the name World Three. And that is the start of the “World Three” arc, in the timeline.

That wasn’t a very fun ride, I’m sorry.

What is a anniversary post without a bunch of rather useless data values? So I’ll break down most of that stuff here, but as I said this really will be the more interesting part. At least I think it will. I like numbers.

  • # of series done: 6
  • # of Volumes Completed: 4
  • # of Chapters Completed: 48
  • Total space used for DDLs: 995.42 MB
  • Total bandwidth used for DDLs: 612.17 GB
  • Total downloads served: 81,873 (Since March 12, 2011)

From there, people would usually go into actual web statistics. Page views, hits, visitors, etc. You know, the things people usually wave around like they’re important, or something. But in all honesty I, as the primary webmaster for the group, never set up anything to really track such things on purpose, because counting numbers is stupid.. The most I could do is “hits” via the access log. And that’s rather boring anyway.

Which, according to that, we have… 600,595 hits from 17/03/2012 – 20/05/2012. Yay?

Anyway, I’ll provide you the real meat of this section. If you’ve read our FAQ you would know that we basically handle all monetary things in house. No donations, no adsense. Like a lot of other groups. What a lot of other groups do not go into is how much goes into what/where. But now, you’ll know! For us anyway.

366 Days of Expenses

  • $341.00 on…. importing raws
  • $119.40 on…. the initial shared hosting plan (12 months)
  • $241.21 on… the original reader VPS (11 months)
  • $196.55 on… the new server we’re on now (04 months)
  • $ 37.47  on… domain moving from stupid GoDaddy
  • $ 83.99  on… a new scanner to scan raws
  • $114.00 on… a Bamboo Capture so I can clean better

Total: $1133.62 USD

Yup. That’s how much was spent this last year. Do any of those involved mind at all? Nope. So please, don’t you worry about us when seeing these numbers. It’s just a small price we choose to pay to do the hobby we love to do. Seriously though, you don’t even have to spend any money at all to scanlate. Share raws exist. WordPress/Blogger/Tumblr blogs are a thing. GIMP/ are free (most people pirate Photoshop anyway.) There’s more than enough tools out there for anyone to get into this hobby, and hopefully enjoy it!

In closing, I personally would like to thank: J for all that inspiration. abcd9146 for teaching me a good deal of everything. He Who Must Not Be Named for giving us a place at K4L/L4K. sexy mahou shoujo from kyonkundenwa for all the good times we’ve yelled about this hobby. Woxxy from FoOlRulez for dealing with all my stupid tech support questions. WCW_TL, and Yamada from 14BiQ, for their wise words of wisdom/advice. Of course Twintail and the Staff here at World Three for sticking through and translating/editing/cleaning/redrawing/typesetting/lettering at some of the most ungodly hours of the day just to finish a release. As well as all the hard working authors and artists that made the manga we scanlate in the first place!

And obviously, You. The ones that read, that have read, and that will read. Every single one of you.
Without you, none of this would be possible. None of this would exist. And for that…

ありがとうございます。 ♡(*´▽`*)

It’s Not My Fault That I’m Not Popular! Ch.19

DDL: [Mediafire] | Online: [Reader]

And here we are again. The Life and Misadventures of Tomoko Kuroki. The chapter is rather on the long side coming in at 14 pages. Some anon was telling me I was basically trash for redrawing pages, which sure, you can say that because it’s somewhat true. But like I told them, unless you want to read pages like this, there’s no real point in say such things. (Also, there’s actually a second part to that credits image.)

Tanigawa-sensei will be taking another break again for the release of the second volume on the 22nd, so the next chapter is next month. But, remember to get out and pre-order/buy your copies to help support her. We managed to do a lot of cool things–and a few not so cool things–so let’s try to make a mangaka’s dream come true again!

Don’t Cry, Girl‘s post was edited with a DDL. Happy reading!
Akatsuki no Memoria is a go! Aiming to finish Vol.1 before 2nd cour. I’ve posted spoilers on /a/ already.
Houkago Play is already slowly being wrapped up as of this post. Hope to get it out somewhat soon.
Cosmos and Sorairo Square are still kind of tied up, but I’m working to untangle that ASAP as well.

Oh my, did we hit the big time?

Some rather unfortunate news for all of you out there. We (specifically me) got contacted by JManga to take down chapters of Don’t Cry, Girl off our website since they own it now and stuff. So, effective immediately, I took them off our website. That means they’re off the reader, i.e. off the website, JManga.

This may, or may not, affect that many people directly. I can’t be sure though. It’s rather unfortunate, honestly, but I’d rather comply with the wishes of a licensee rather than attempt to engage in a potential legal battle.

What does this mean for us as a scanlation group doing this series? I’m not even sure anymore…
